12/8 and 12/9: Native Americans: Contact and Conflict

On Wednesday, we watched a really interesting video called, "Native Americans:  Contact and Conflict",  about what really happened to the Native Americans when the Europeans arrived to this country.  We took notes on the video.


On Thursday, we created a comic strip explaining 3 facts about contact, and 3 facts about conflict.  The students used their notes from the video.

    MEAP Testing Tuesday

    You will be in your 7th hour teacher's room from 1st-3rd hour.


    On Tuesday after lunch, you will go to your 6th, 3rd, and 1st hour teachers.
    On Wednesday after lunch, you will go to your 6th, 3rd, and 8th hour teachers.

    On Thursday, you will go to your 1st hour in the morning, and your afternoon classes will be 6, 7, and 8.

    Create A Country Project- Due Monday 10/4/10

    Directions:  You will be creating a map of an imaginary country.  On this map, you must include the following items.  Check them off as you complete them on your map.
    • ÿ    Compass rose -- 5 points
    • ÿ    Country boundary -- 5 points
    • ÿ    Country name -- 5 points
    • ÿ    10 cities including a CAPITAL CITY -- (1 point for each city) 10 points
    • ÿ    Scale of miles -- 5 points
    • ÿ     5 Symbols to show five natural resources found in the country (five points each) -25 points
    • ÿ    Map key/legend (including ALL symbols, including cities and capital )             – 10 points
    • ÿ    5 Landforms/Water – Example: mountains, rivers, lakes, valleys, hills, plateaus, plains (five points each) -25 points
    • ÿ    Neatly color the map -- 10 points
    Total points possible---100 Points

    1.  Draw a rough draft of your map, including all of the items listed above. You may use an atlas or your social studies book to help you get ideas.

    2.    Have Ms. Summer check your map before you create your final masterpiece. J

    3.     Use a large sheet of paper to create your final map.  You will need to bring in your own colored pencils, crayons, or markers to color your map.
